We Miss You John

We've missed you John
Since you've been gone
Long years ago in youth,
And tell the truth,
     It's never been the same.

To the moon and back again
We sent our rockets and our men,
And we've had others, after you,
Who thought that they could also do
     The job as well.

But none, like you, have set our hearts
Aflame with dreams and hopes.
We try in futile fits and starts
To keep our nation off the ropes
     And win the game.

We tried a "Great" society.
I'm glad that you don't have to see
This mess .... all's falling down.
We struggle but we're losing ground.
At times it seems like Hell.

It's thirty years
That you've been gone.
We've had some joy but lots of tears.
     We miss you John.
