Damascus Road
Damascus bound I urge my steed,
Anger burning in my heart,
Ride with all deliberate speed,
Tear their gathering apart.
Upstart people of 'The Way',
Breaking ancient holy rules,
Decimate them, even slay,
The blasphemous ungodly fools.
They claim a man of Galilee,
A criminal we crucified,
Nailed upon a Roman tree,
Now lives again after he died.
Suddenly a blinding light,
Strikes me; to the ground I fall,
Darkness sweeps away my sight.
I hear a voice repeating, "Saul!"
Again, I hear it, loud and clear,
Thundering across the ground,
"Saul! What are you doing here?
Know you not what they have found?"
Blinded, terrified I shout,
"Who are you did this to me?
What is this moment all about?
Remove this darkness, let me see."
"In a while you'll truly see,
When you have followed my command,
When at last you understand,
What has come, is meant to be."
Helpless,someone comes to me,
Leads me gently by the hand.
For days I carry on my fight,
Resist I do with mental might,
The thing that took away my sight,
Believing all along I'm right,
Until there comes a gleam of light,
That lifts me from eternal night,
Into the light of a new day,
Penetrates me with a ray,
Teaches me what I must say,
And now I live and love, His way.
