I saw a future beauty queen,
When I knew you at age fifteen.
You were a truly lovely child,
Soft spoken, sweet, kindly and mild.

Easy going ... while inside,
Were feelings that you sought to hide.
Your parents break up hit you hard.
You suffered much in that regard.

But, being you, you soldiered on,
Forging toward your own new dawn.
You helped us make a family,
And found room in your heart for me.

From a sweet child to fully grown,
I've come to love you as my own.
Though some were low and others high,
I thank you for the years gone by.

While there are others you love still,
I hope through all your days you will,
Yet cherish me as I do you,
That love may always see us through.
