Suicide

WHY is there a prohibition against suicide ?

It is understandable that murder is considered an evil in as much as it is in fact a 'taking' of what we regard as belonging to another. A person's life is his 'property' and to take it from him violates all manner of laws ... civil, criminal, natural and spiritual.

Under that reasoning, a person is naturally empowered to dispose of his own life as he sees fit without the interference of other individuals, organizations or institutions.

Yet we know from experience and history that suicide is regarded as a violation of all forms of law and enormous effort is expended in attempts to prevent it. There even punishments for the act of suicide. Those punishment are necessarily applied in the spirit realm.

What possible right has the "state" to object to suicide ? On what basis do my neighbors, and indeed, strangers, claim the right to prevent me disposing of my life in any manner I so choose ?

I answer emphatically; absolutely none.

The same state and many of the same neighbors, have no objection to my ingesting tobacco smoke, alcohol, various drugs, or engaging in a lifestyle which surely leads to early death. Suicide can be carried out quickly by bullet, rope, poison, razor blade across the wrist, or other means. It can also be carried out slowly over a period of years.

Despite what professors of ethics or religion contrive to the contrary, I am the only person with innate authority to dispose of my life ... unless ... unless there is a Sovereign Being who gave it to me in the first place.

Perhaps in His view my life is akin to licensed software. I've the right to use it under whatever restrictions the license includes but I never actually own it. Title always resides with the creator. He may revoke my license at such time as it pleases Him to so do.

I also may surrender and return my license to Him.
But it appears He objects to that and so has allowed, if not engendered, a widespread belief that suicide is a heinous mortal sin so that occurrences will be minimized.

Suppose you not only believed, but actually knew with certainty, that suicide would immediately release you from physical bonds and transport you in your essence to Paradise? Would you not be tempted to go? Why would any sane person remain here when the grass is soooo much greener on the other side of that final fence between life and life hereafter ?

Because God has a PLAN and the plan includes replicating spirit beings housed in human bodies until He calls each one home. I don't know what else is in the plan but I know that the existence of the plan is why we are prohibited from suicide. If every human self destructed, there would be no one to carry on the work of fulfilling His plan.

Live. Be well. Be happy.
God is in control.
