| Parable of the Strays |
|
[1] Love is not unlike a wandering stray which appeared on a householder's doorstep wanting to come in.
[2] But the householder was distrusting and fearful and so refused to allow it to come in and live with him. [3] Love went away and soon found a home where it was welcomed. But in time the householder proved ungrateful and indifferent, so after a time Love departed, else it would perish in such a place. [4] Soon enough Love happened upon a home where it was welcomed. There it was cared for, fed and nourished, praised and appreciated. [5] And so it thrived there and bonded to the householder and remained with him. Even his death could not separate them. Love lingered in that abode and blessed all who entered. [6] It is the same with Love's opposite which is Hatred. [7] Hatred will depart from where it is not nourished but will remain even unto death where it is nourished, and be a curse those who come into its presence. [8] Many are the wanderers who behave in like manner to Love and Hate. [9] Among them are these: Joy and Sorrow, Peace and Strife, Calm and Anger, Courage and Fear, Humility and Pride, Honesty and Dishonesty, Admiration and Envy. [10] In a lifetime one will encounter each of these and many more not named here. [11] At each encounter he must choose what to do. If he ignores it, it will depart. If he feeds it, it will remain and grow ever stronger. [12] Let him who seeks such indwellers as Love, Peace, Joy and and other good companions take heed. Sagaverus 13:1-12 [March 2009] |
