Popclock & Spermatozoa

According to various "population clock" sites on the internet, the world's population is increasing by at least 6,849,530 people every month, or around 82 million per year. That is the net increase after deducting deaths from births.

In one year there are 365 days (never mind the quarter day ... these are rounded computations), of 24 hours of sixty minutes of sixty seconds. So, about 31,536,000 seconds in a year.

After extensive research (means I read it online) I found there are on average:
Births = 42 / second
Abortions = 1.5 / second
Miscarriages = .4 / second
Stillbirths = .27 / second
which means that somewhere on earth some man is ejaculating into some woman at the rate of 44 times per second.

Further research indicates:
Condom production reached 8.5 billion a couple of years ago.
Males age 10 - 19 in world population are about 600,000. This age group is believed to produce on average 100 orgasms per year by masturbation.

Now to sum up, we have:
Male coital ejaculations without condoms totaling 44 / second
Male coital ejaculations with condoms totaling 270 / second
Male masturbatory ejaculations totaling 190 / second
for a grand total of 504 ejaculations per second.

Scientists have determined the average volume per ejaculation to be between 2 and 6.5 ml. We will use the midpoint of 4.25 ml for our study.

Each milliliter of human male semen contains (world average) about 60,000,000 little swimmers per milliliter.

Therefore, if we multiply total ejaculations of 504 times volume per ejaculation of 4.25 ml we get 2,142 ml of semen, each ml containing 60 million swimmers, for a total of

1,285,200,000,000

or roughly one and one quarter quadrillion swimmers going someplace every second of every day. The animation below displays 42,000 spermatozoa swimming by each second. Multiply them by three billion or so and you get something like the probable actual number in motion every second. This is just among humans.

Pretty amazing, eh ?
