| The Atheist Creed |
|
‘Atheism’ means the negation of theism, the denial of the existence of God.
(http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/atheism-agnosticism/#1) Atheism is the philosophical position that deities do not exist, or that rejects theism. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism) The true atheist is not a nonbeliever. On the contrary, he/she is a true believer who believes in the proposition that there is no God and accepts such proposition as absolute truth. They are not unknowing, uncertain, questioning, agnostics. They are convicted believers faithfully holding to the underlying tenets of their particular faith. If world atheism (they spell it with an uppercase A to identify its standing in the language and culture as being equal to such labeled organizations as Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism, etc.) had a single published creed, it might read as follows:
They are like all other adherents of a belief system and should be accorded the standing and rights under the U. S. Constitution to which all other religious groups and organizations are entitled. They are entitled to peaceably hold their gatherings and espouse their beliefs; to publish and broadcast those beliefs; to evangelize and proselytize on behalf of their beliefs and organizations. They are entitled to every freedom to not worship as they see fit. No other group holding and espousing contrary views should be able to compel Atheists to participate in, or avoid participation in, any religiously based activity or program. Likewise, Atheists should not be allowed to compel those who are not believers in Atheism to forego their own religious practices in private or public, at home or at work or school, any more than a tiny percentage of Americans who lay claim to any other religion's adherents should be allowed to compel the Atheist. No one can legally force an Atheist to recite the pledge of allegiance, nor the words "under God" contained therein, and by the same token it should not be possible for Atheists, or governments bending to their demands, to legally compel others to not speak the same words that Atheists find so offensive. If you, like many uninformed, believe atheists are simply individuals who deny God's existence, then log onto http://www.atheists.org/ and see for yourself that they are organized as an identifiable constituency. I predict you will be stunned by the scope and purpose. On April 11, 2009 they are holding a convention opposite the celebrations of Passover and Easter. Sagaverus January 2009 |
