Author notes: The items on this page were taken from the Newark [Ohio] Advocate online images
accessed through ancestry.com from newsbank.com. They are arranged in date order to provide a
picture of the McConnell family's life in Licking County, Ohio during the years available.
Items have been truncated to remove most unrelated matter. The boxed dates were added by Author,
and when I did not overlook it, the page number follows the date to enable others to replicate
this research. Annotation in the form of green highlights have been added to aid in finding the
name of the person in the story.
The reports typically do not reveal first names of married women nor do they distinguish between
seniors and juniors of the same given name, thus requiring some judgment by Author based on dates
and their relevance to persons in the lineage.
Hugh McConnell, William McConnell, James McConnell, John McConnell [Jr] and Jennie [Mrs. George] Snook,
mentioned in these reports are John McConnell's children. Jennie McConnell / O'Neill is his granddaughter
through son James.

| Author notes:
John and his wife Jane did have five children, all grown at the date of this death. The age of 62
makes a birth in 1827 which does not agree with census information. Census entries put her birth
at variously 1831-34. Nevertheless, I believe this Mrs. McConnell is"ours".

Several items pertain to the North Third Street Sewer saga involving John McConnell. I am confident
this is"our"John because he is a brick mason by trade according to census, and at the time the
sewer was built he was 67 years old and reports reference his advanced age.

Above: Mary A [Byrnes] McConnell was listed as owner of property in 1907 assessment indicating husband James was
already deceased.
