McConnell Census Map

This map, adapted from Yahoo! driving maps, inidcates where various McConnel family members lived
in Newark, Ohio from 1860 through 1930. Locations are based on census sheet addresses and in some
cases from news reports. The black square in the lower left area represents the Licking County
courthouse and center of town. The dashed black line running north to south approximates the line
of the Licking River which separates what newspaper stories dub the "East End". The yellow roadway
is modern expressway which did not exist in the time period in question. Back then Hiway 16 was a
route through town on surface streets.

345 East Main: John and Jane McConnell lived on East Main when the 1880 census was taken, and
probably as early as 1860 when first counted. Johnr emained there long after her 1899 death.
He was still there in 1910 census. |

435 East Main: Jennie McConnell Snooks lived here in 1920 census with her son Frank and brother
John after her husband George died. |

40 Dewey Avenue: home of James and Mary McConnell for most of their life together. Dau.ghter Jennie until 1905 marriage. |
