I am trying to find parents and birthplace for my 7G Grandfather, Adam
Muir. He was a merchant and died in Dorchester County, Maryland. His
brother, Thomas Muir, was Sheriff of Dorchester County, and Adam was a
Justice 1734, 1737, 1741-2, according to land records. I believe that
his wife was Ann Ballard, but have found no documentation. His children
were James Muir, Charles Muir and Ann Muir.
The IGI lists the following as a possibility for his parents. I picked
them out because they had two sons named Adam and Thomas born at about
the right time:

[1] Author notes: I have not researched the Hon. Samuel Cox to determine a relationship which might
move widow Elizabeth to grant such sweeping powers of attorney to adam and James. What is intereswting and useful
to note is the date 1728 makes it impossible for Adam's son James to be the co-attorney meaning it must be his
brother James, age 26 at the time, who is named. This supports the IGI posting showing four siblings Thomas, Adam,
John and James who apparently all emigrated from Scotland to Maryland.
The passenger record Adam and James in 1734 was not the first crossing for James since he was already in
Maryland in 1728.

Author notes: this above entry "162 Assembly Proceedings, May 26-June 22, 1741." shows a connection between
Muir and Hepburn families 18 years before Adam's granddaughter Jean Muir was born in 1759 and later married
Samuel Chew Hepburn. They begot John Muir Hepburn in 1790. The Lieutenant Hepburn being paid above had to be
John Sr. Hepburn, b.1709, active in The Maryland Militia prior to the American Revolutionary War. John Sr.
live through the war to 1794. Adam Muir & John Hepburn would later have a grandson in common,
