The Lafayette (Louisiana) Daily Advertiser published July 15, 1893 carried advertising by
Maurice Villien selling building lots.
Saturday 22 this month will take place has Mauriceville, 13 miles of Lafayette, the bente of a qunatite of batches of
ground. These grounds are lay out so as to build there residences and of the stores and to form liked small late
city. All the streets are already tracees. A vault [chapel] is there
built and the divine services are done there regularly. The population increases tous.les.jours
[every day] there. Those which voudraieut

The one hundred eighty-one acres Maurice recorded in 1879 must be the land he offered for
sale in the Lafayette Advertiser in 1893. He and Corine Broussard were apparently partners in a
business venture to devlope the future town of Mauriceville.
