DEATH: 1794 Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Pierre fils (Junior, Second, II) was born at a time when France and England were in constant struggle
for control of the area known as L'Acadie [Acadia}, and specifically the island to become known in our
time as Ecosse Nouvelle, en Francais, and Nova Scotia in English, though the name is actually Latin for
New Scotland. England won control of Nova Scotia. The Acadian French were expelled by deportation order.
After the Acadians were gone, their lands and holdings were given to settlers from Scotland which is no doubt
how the island became named New Scotland.

|
This map shows the situation in about 1750. France still had control of much of eastern canada but
Britain had taken over the island of Nova Scotia with headquarters at Halfiax. The green circles
represent pockets of Acadian French who were deported. |

R.A. LEBLANC. Les migrations acadiennes, in Cahiers de géographie du Québec, vol. 23, no 58,
april 1979, p. 99-124. |
|
Pierre was about age 45 when the orders were carried out beginning in 1755. Note above that Pierre II
was married to Marie LeBlanc in Acadia, Canada and all their children were born there before 1751. He
and his family were presumably among the 866 Acadians deported to England where wife Marie died in 1761.
At the Acadian Home web site[6] there is a list of deportees. The list includes many names
in our genealogical records -- Blanchards, Landrys, LeBlancs and others, and lists these Richards:
Pierre RICHARD ["our" Pierre ?]
Jos. RICHARD ["our" Joseph Ignace ?]
Charles RICHARD
Paul RICHARD
Joseph RICHARD
Jean RICHARD
Jacque RICHARD
He apparently journeyed from England to France to begin a new life.
There, in the year 1763 Pierre married Francoise Daigle.
During the ensuing years Francoise bore Pierre four more children, all born in France.

|
|
With his wife Francoise and their children, he emigrated from France to Louisiana in 1785 aboard
the vessel "Le Beaumont" [5]. He settled in Acadiana where many of his countrymen and
relatives had so done and lived nine more years until his death at Baton Rouge in 1794.
The present genealogical endeavor does not trace Pierre's children because, except for his son
Joseph Ignace Richard, they are not in my direct ancestral line. Joseph is the subject of a separate
page devoted to him.
