Author notes:
This is the only census in which Annette Richard appears under her maiden name. She was born
in 1886. The US census 1890 was mostly destroyed by fire. When the 1910 census was taken she
had become Mrs. Dr. H. J. Chauvin.

Marriage Certificate from Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson, Louisiana.
The top of the form reads "State of Louisiana--Parish of St Landry" but the town
of Patterson is in St Mary Parish. Perhaps the priest happened to have only the
St Landry form and used it, else there was some period in which St Mary Parish
was named St Landry. Seems unlikely. Perhaps future research will sort this out.

1934 Annette & Daughter Marietta
|
|
|
ABOVE: Birthday telegram to Annette from son-in-law Dr. Lastie Villien, daughter
Irene [Chauvin] Villien and six year old grandson Lastie Jr. It is dated January 28, the day
before her birthday. No year is shown. Quite possibly this was at the time in 1942 of her last
birthday. She was hospitalized in New Orleans then. She died in April of that year.
LEFT: Annette and daughter Marietta Chauvin, or Hepburn, walking somewhere in a city or
town ... most likely New Orleans about 1934 before Marietta married Howard Hepburn. Annette has
a sad look about her reminiscent of a new widow. Her husband Hercules died in 1933.

Louisiana Statewide Death Index,
1900-1949 Recordinfo
Name: Annette Lily Chauvin
Death Date: 21 Apr 1942
Estimated Birth Year: 1886
Age: 56 Years
Gender: Female
Race: White or Mexican
Parish: Iberia
Certificate Number: 11637
Volume: 50
Author notes:
On Annette's death certificate, her mother's maiden name is stated as Virginia Broussard.
The information was supplied by either her daughter Marietta, who signed as Mrs.H.E.Hepburn,
or her son-in-law Lastie Villien, the attending physician. Annette's mother was
Virginia Landry, not Broussard. Either Marietta or Lastie didn't know the facts or one
of them was too distraught to get it right the day after Annette died. Both scenarios
seem unlikely.
Or, perhaps Virginia Landry who is on gravestone as wife of T. Richard, was a second wife
also named Virginia and Virginia Broussard was a prior wife and mother of Annette.
More research needed.

Author notes:
Several newspaper clippings from 1942 are in posession of cousin Julie Miller who
kindly scanned these and sent them to me. They may be presumed to have been published
in Jeanerette, Louisiana and possibly Thibodaux, Louisiana.]

In the left column you see a photo of St John Evangelist Church in
Jeanerette, Louisiana, where Annette's requiem mass was celebrated by her nephew Father
Wayne Richard, son of brother Junius. At the right edge of the church photo is a house
which is across Church Street from the church. The closeup photo below if of that house.
It belonged to Dr. and Mrs. Villien, Annette's son-in-law and daughter. Annette lived
her final years in that house and the one time I ever saw my grandmother was during a
visit to that house. Both the church and the house, photographed 2007 05 22 by author,
appear very much as they did 65 years before.
