VOCATION: Voyageur [see records below] MILITARY: unk RELIGION: Roman Catholic, presumably DEATH: Kaskaskia, IL in 1754 or 1772 - records differ INTERRED: unk
Author notes: [1] Author Note: several people's date of death in Montreal is given as 1699. Gilles brothers Paul Chauvin dit Montolaisir 1680 - 1699 and Jean Baptiste Chauvin 1680 - 1699 and his first wife Madeleine Cabazier. His second child Louise Danielle Chauvin was born in 1699 - perhaps her mother died in childbirth as many did. In addition, his father Pierre is recorded as dying in 1699. So, in a single year, Gilles lost father, wife, and two brothers. If these records are correct, it must have been one horrible year in his life. Possibly something extraordinary occurred in Quebec that year. WH.

Hi Barbara !

Gilles Chauvin (never Jules) died in Montréal on May 16, 1731 and was buried on May 17
in the catholic parish of Notre-Dame (Our Lady's)in the same place at the age of 63.
His second wife, Angélique Guyon de Rouvray died the same year and place on May 9th,
and was buried on May 10, 1731, aged 47. Marie Cabazier, his first wife, died on
August 8 and was buried on the 9th of the same month in 1699 also in Montréal.
Gilles got married to the first one on January 21, 1697 in Montréal and to the second
one at the same location on November 24, 1700.

Gilles' father was Pierre Chauvin. He was born in 1631 in VION (not St-Vion !)
(old province of Anjou) (now "département" of Sarthe), France. He was the son of
René Chauvin and Catherine Havard (who both died in 1638 in Vion).

I hope these details will help you...

By the way, I am a descendant of Marie-Marthe Chauvin (1662-1728), Gilles's sister...

Genealogically yours!

François Lafrenière

Hi Barbara !

The two main sources are : the "Dictionnaire généalogique des familles du Québec"
by René Jetté and the "PRDH" books (a collection of some 45 books of transcript of the
church records from 1621 to 1765). I can have access to a photocopy of these acts which
are on microfilm. If you want to receive a photocopy of certain of them, let me know.

You are saying that you descend from two daughters of Marie-Marthe Chauvin named
Françoise and Anne ?! Marie-Marthe Chauvin (1662-1728) didn't have a daughter named
Françoise but she had one named Marie-Anne (1691-1756) married to Pierre Delguiel or
Déziel dit Labrèche. She also had a daughter named Suzanne (1698-1760) who married
Sébastien Vanasse dit Bastien. If you meant Marie-Marthe Hautreux-Chauvin, the mother,
she didn't have any daughters named Anne or Françoise either, so... Please, give me some
light on this !

Genealogically yours!

Your distant cousin,

François Lafrenière
