The speaking characters are other dolls on a shelf in a toy store. This is made more apparent by the presence of ... you guessed it ... an ELEPHANT toy. The cartoonist could have used ANY toy; a boat, game, kiddie kitchen equipment, etc. but chose an elephant as co-star.
